Monkey Wellbeing - Review

We were recently sent a fantastic Monkey Wellbeing pack for Bethany.

What its all about...

The project was inspired by a mum named Helen who had an 18 month old little girl named Josephine who needed an operation. To make her daughter more relaxed, and the operation less daunting Helen made a book about a toy monkey who went to hospital to have an operation just like her daughter. It was such a success that the hospital went onto commission these fantastic books. This has now become Helens business. You can read more about this fantastic inspiring story here.

What was included and What we thought...

We were sent:

Monkey visits the Emergency Department – Activity Guide £3.95
Children’s Guidebook – Monkey’s Guide to Healthy Living and NHS Services £0.95
Monkey Has a Blood Test Storybook £2.95

Bethany was very excited to get stuck into this pack. She has been to hospital several times over the years with her asthma and numerous chest infections!

First we read the story called "Monkey Has a Blood Test".

This book was fantastic, it told Bethany all about how her blood is pumped around her body by her heart, and where to feel her pulse. It mentioned about why she may need to have a blood test, and showed all the different things they use to take blood. Then the book goes through the steps of having a blood test in a nice easy way for children to understand.

After we read the book, Bethany couldn't wait to make the Ambulance she received in the activity pack.

Next we started working through the activity pack together, Bethany loved sticking the stickers in the correct places and learning what different instruments doctors use.

The activity book shows monkey going to hospital in an ambulance after falling out of a tree, and shows how the paramedics help when they arrive.

There's lots of lovely activities and colouring to do in this pack.

Some of the questions are answered with fantastic stickers like this....

It tells you about how an X-ray machine works, what happens when you bump your head. And what happens when you go home after visiting the Emergency Department. At the end of the activity book it tells you how to stay safe.

The pack comes with lots of stickers too, what child doesn't love stickers!

And we received a Children's Guidebook as well which tells your child who they can talk to about their health, where to go to for minor injuries and illness, Who has information about your child's health and wellbeing, and about dialling 999.

We absolutely loved this pack and think Bethany has a bit more of an understanding about Hospital's, and has learnt that they are not as scary as they may seem.
